Strong 8K: point your line at a backup host

Categories on screen and nothing that will play is a specific fault with a specific cure. A list that arrives at all is proof the line authenticated, and that single fact disposes of two suspects at once: the term has not run out, and the password is not mistyped. What is left is the server address written into the playlist on that one device. Your S8KM- order was issued with more than one address for exactly this, and they are interchangeable.

The six steps

What follows works the same way whichever player is installed, because you are editing the link rather than the app. Pick your app in the panel below and the screens for it, a short video and the alternate addresses attached to your own line are printed there ready to copy.

1. Photograph the MAC the player is complaining about

A player that cannot load the list nearly always prints the box MAC underneath the error, in six pairs separated by colons. Photograph it rather than copying it by eye: a B read as an 8 sends you round the loop a second time. The upload page finds your stored playlist by that address and has nothing to work with until you have it.

2. Do the editing on a phone, not on the remote

Every player keeps its own upload page and they are not interchangeable, so open the one belonging to the app that is actually installed on the set. Type the MAC into it and the playlist link held for that device is printed back to you, ready to edit. A phone keyboard turns this into a thirty-second job; a directional pad does not.

3. Work out where the address stops

A link of the form http://something:80/get.php?username=...&password=... has exactly one part you are allowed to touch. The host is the run of characters between the double slash and the colon. Everything from the colon onwards - the port, the path, your username, your password - belongs to your S8KM- line and stays byte for byte as it is.

4. Take a backup address from your own line

The mail that delivered your credentials lists alternates under the main address, and your account page on this site prints the same list. Copy one of them whole and nothing besides. A trailing space picked up in the paste is the commonest reason a perfectly good address is rejected, and it is invisible in the field.

5. Swap the address, leave the rest alone

Highlight the old host inside the field, paste the alternate over it, and check that the first character after it is still the colon before the port. Save on the upload page. At this point the television has not been told anything yet, which is why there is one more step and why the picture does not change until you take it.

6. Make the set fetch the list again

Refresh the playlist from inside the app, or close it completely and reopen it, so the catalogue is pulled down from the address you just saved rather than from a cached copy. Still nothing? Repeat steps three to five with the next alternate on the list. Running out of alternates is the point at which support wants to hear from you.

If the host swap does not fix it

Swapping the address cures one fault only: a full category list that will open nothing. A picture that starts, freezes and starts again, or one channel breaking up while the rest hold steady, belongs to a different chain, and picture problems, checked in order walks it from the room outwards. An S8KM- order paid within the hour and still silent is not a host question either; what happens between paying and watching explains where it sits. Half-configured player, stopped mid-install? Go back to the walkthrough for that screen. When every alternate on your account page behaves the same way, the line itself is the suspect: write in with the S8KM- number and the exact error.
